The Friends of Sutter’s Fort is a nonprofit 501 c 3 organization dedicated to the enhancement, preservation and protection of Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park, and educational and interpretive programs at the park. We are a Cooperating Association for California State Parks since 2006, although the history of our organization can be traced back to 1979.

Directions and Parking

Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park is located in the heart of midtown Sacramento between K and L Streets and 26th and 28th Streets.


Traveling on I-80, from San Francisco, take Business 80/Hwy 50 east. Take the Business 80 exit (north towards Reno) to the N Street turn off. Travel straight on 30th Street then turn left under the freeway at K Street to the Fort which will be located on your left.



Holiday Season Parking Update!

This holiday season the City of Sacramento is offering free on-street metered parking on weekdays after 4:30 pm and all day on weekends starting November 25 through December 25. Free parking will only apply to metered on-street spaces in the area from I to L streets and from Front to 29th streets. Other parking violations are still enforceable such as time limits, city services, and curb color zones. For more information please visit sacpark.org.

Bus Parking: Free bus parking is available on "L" Street in front of Sutter's Fort.
