The Friends of Sutter’s Fort is a nonprofit 501 c 3 organization dedicated to the enhancement, preservation and protection of Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park, and educational and interpretive programs at the park. We are a Cooperating Association for California State Parks since 2006, although the history of our organization can be traced back to 1979.

The Friends of Sutter's Fort is proud to sponsor the volunteer program at Sutter's Fort State Historic Park

Each year, over 100 volunteers donate their time to Sutter's Fort State Historic Park through the docent volunteer program. These fantastic individuals give their time to help Sutter's Fort come to life by dressing in historic costume to help welcome visitors, demonstrate everyday activities of 1840's pioneers and provide educational information about the historic site.

Together with our partners at Sutter Health, Friends of Sutter's Fort is pleased to provide funding to support the volunteer program at Sutter's Fort.

We are also proud to acknowledge volunteer efforts. This year, we hosted a volunteer appreciation dinner at the California State Railroad Museum to celebrate those volunteers who contributed over 84 hours of service in 2016 to Sutter's Fort. It was a wonderful evening and we appreciate all of the volunteers and staff who participated.

During the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, awards were presented to several of our volunteers by California State Park staff.

If you are interested in donating to support the volunteer efforts at Sutter's Fort, or if you would like to help sponsor future volunteer events,  please contact Linsey Fredenburg Humes at 916-323-7626 or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
